Website cuts EU Jargon for Wexford People Connick
A new website will help Wexford people cut through the ‘jargon’ and bureaucratic language which has made the EU seem remote from our daily lives, according to local Fianna Fáil TD, Sean Connick.
"Launched by the my colleague, Minister for Foreign Affairs, Micheál Martin the new site, www.eumatters.ie will provide clear and reliable information about the EU to people of all ages in Wexford and throughout the country."
"The website which will also be supported by a public information campaign highlights the impact membership of the EU has on our people and our communities. This includes areas such as reductions in mobile phone charges to how the Union is tackling issues such as climate change and the current economic crisis."
"The launch of the campaign follows on research last year which showed that many people feel disconnected from Europe, its workings and its policies."
"If the EU is to be seen to be relevant then it is important that it reaches out to communities, here in Wexford, in Ireland and across the 27 member states."
"I would encourage anyone with questions about Europe to log onto the website. The information is concise, accurate and easy to access."
"I will also remain in close contact with Minister Martin to ensure that we see an end to the official language which for too long has cut the EU off from its citizens, and that we continue to make every effort to communicate Europe in a more efficient manner," concluded Deputy Connick.
