GRANTS UNDER THE SCHEME OF COMMUNITY SUPPORT FOR OLDER PEOPLE.

Sean Connick welcomes funding to a further 4 community organizations in County Wexford under The Scheme of Community Support for Older People.  This Scheme is administered and funded by the Department of Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs with the services delivered by local community and voluntary groups. This grant Scheme aims to improve the security of older members of the community. Funding is available towards the once-off cost of installing socially monitored alarm systems and small items of physical security. There is also funding available for interior security lighting for qualifying older people living on our offshore islands. €1.2 million has been provided to date in 2009 with in excess of 3,500 individual older people benefiting.  The Scheme is currently being reviewed following suspension earlier this year as part of the supplementary budget. It is expected that a revised Scheme will be launched later in the autumn of this year. “I am delighted with this funding under the Scheme of Community Support for Older People. Locally based groups deliver the benefits of this Scheme to older people in their communities, which in turn helps to promote and foster community involvement with the more vulnerable members of our society. I wish to express my gratitude to them for their commitment in so doing.
