Scheme To Combat Drug Dealing To Be Extended To Wexford

The Dial To Stop Drug Dealing Campaign is to be extended to Co. Wexford according to local Fianna Fail TD Sean Connick.

The Dial–to-Stop Drug Dealing campaigns are designed to encourage people to provide any information (anonymously if desired) which they may have on drug dealing through a confidential telephone line. Such information will, as appropriate, be forwarded to An Garda Síochána.  

According to Deputy Connick, Dial To Stop Drug Dealing was launched in September 2008 in five areas in Dublin and has proven to be very successful.

“Since the Dial to Stop Drug Dealing service was launched in Dublin six months ago the confidential telephone line has received over 1,400 calls.  This has lead to 360 reports been sent to the Gardai. 

The Government has now decided to extend Dial to Stop Drug Dealing to other parts of the country based on its success in Dublin.  €300,000 has been allocated from the Dormant Accounts Fund to extend this service to a number of areas over the coming months.  The South East Regional Drugs Task Force area, which includes Co. Wexford, is one of the areas which have been selected for inclusion in the next phase of Dial To Stop Drug Dealing. 

In addition to providing further information, which will aid the Gardai’s efforts in tackling drug dealing in Co. Wexford, the campaign will have the added value of promoting greater links between the community and the Gardaí and in promoting drug awareness in local communities throughout the county.

Wexford has been selected as one of the areas which will participate in the next phase of Dial To Stop Drug Dealing.  This campaign will be of great assistance to the Gardai in combating drug misuse in Wexford and will give people in local communities a chance to make any information they have about drug dealing known in a confidential manner.”
