Wexford Minister of State Sean Connick has welcomed the announcement today (Tuesday 1st February) of the Regional & Local Road Budget for 2011 saying that it will give Local Authorities in Co. Wexford financial support in repairing the damage caused to local roads during the recent bad weather.
The government’s spending plans for the regional and local roads network for 2011, totalling €375 million, were outlined today. Among the details outlined in the announcement for 2011 was an allocation of over €11.5 million for Wexford County Council, €420,000 to Wexford Borough Council and €195,000 each for both New Ross Town Council and Enniscorthy Town Council, totalling €12.3 million for Co. Wexford.
Speaking after this announcement Minister Connick said that this was an important investment by the government in the regional and local roads network and that the allocation to Co. Wexford would give Wexford County Council great flexibility in deciding which roads need to be prioritised for repair work.
“I am happy that the National Roads budget for 2011 has earmarked significant expenditure for road repairs in Co. Wexford. Wexford County Council are to receive in excess of €12.3 million for local and regional roads within the county for the coming year. The County Council has been given great flexibility in deciding where to allocate this money. The Engineers and Roads staff in Wexford County Council have done a good job in very difficult circumstances repairing as much road damage as they could over the Winter period. This allocation will be of great assistance to them in this work.”
