CONNICK WELCOMES WEXFORD HIGH SPEED BROADBAND TRIALS
Local Minister of State Sean Connick TD has welcomed an announcement made today (Wednesday June 16th) that Wexford town is one of two locations in Ireland selected for trials of ultra fast fibre broadband.
Eircom will invest up to €20 million in trials of ultra fast fibre broadband to up to 10,000 homes and businesses in Wexford town and in Sandyford, Co. Dublin. The “fibre to home technology” which is being trialled will offer broadband speeds of up to 150Mb per second.
Speaking after this announcement Minister Connick said: “I am delighted that Wexford town is one of the two locations in Ireland that have been chosen for trials of this high tec new broadband product. Speeds of up to 150Mb per second will open up huge new online opportunities for businesses in Wexford town as well as to home customers who will unprecedented speed and access to the internet. I understand that Eircom are already in negotiations with contractors to roll this product out and that they hope the first customers will be connected in Spring 2011.”
