CONNICK ANNOUNCES €1.36 MILLION FOR NEW ROSS QUAYSIDE DEVELOPMENT PLAN

Local Minister of State Sean Connick TD has confirmed government funding of €1.36 million for the New Ross Quayside Development Plan.

According to Minister Connick:  “The Quayside Development Plan will completely change the physical appearance of the quay front in New Ross.  The quay is the first sight of the New Ross that most visitors will see and it will be transformed when this work is carried out.  The quay will become an attractive amenity for both locals and visitors. People in New Ross only have to look down the road to Wexford town to see how a redesigned quay front can transform a town.

My government colleagues were very keen to support the New Ross Quayside Development Plan and could see the potential it had to improve the appearance of the town.  I was happy to be in a position to help to secure this funding.

This funding of €1.36 million will be processed by Failte Ireland and will allow the work needed to commence as quickly as possible.  I would hope that the physical work to change the appearance of the quay front will start early next year.  The funding of €1.36 million, which I have been able to confirm today, is in addition to funding of €1.9 million which was recently announced to upgrade facilities at the Dunbrody Visitor Centre.  This brings the level of government funding being allocated to a small area on the quay in New Ross to over € 3 ¼ million in a short period of time.  This substantial level of funding will help to secure New Ross’s place on the tourist map.”
