Connick welcomes National Broadband Scheme rollout in Wexford
Sean Connick TD has welcomed the announcement that much-needed broadband services have been rolled out in Wexford to all areas due to be enabled under the National Broadband Scheme (NBS).
3 was awarded the contract to roll-out broadband services by the Department of Communications, Energy & Natural Resources in December 2008, to areas of rural Ireland which are still unconnected.
Under the National Broadband Scheme, the following electoral divisions in Co. Wexford were scheduled to be connected to a mobile broadband service – Dunmain, Inch, Carnagh, Taghmon, Ardcolm, Ballyhuskard, Ballyvaldon, Castle Ellis, Kilnahue, Limerick, Monaseed and Wingfield. Deputy Connick has now received confirmation from 3 that all of these areas have now been connected to mobile broadband.
“Homes and businesses in these areas can now avail of mobile broadband which provides a minimum download speed at launch of 1.2Mbps and is operating on world leading broadband technology.
The National Broadband Scheme sees an estimated €223 million investment by the Government, the European Union and 3. It will enable internet services for both home and business users.
This connectivity will enable businesses in the NBS coverage areas in Wexford to make the most of high speed internet, email and additional services opening up local and global markets, and potentially improving efficiencies and revenues. All of which are vital during the current economic downturn.
Home users will have access to high-speed and high-capacity wireless broadband where they can do everything they always wanted to do on the internet, whether it’s downloading music, surfing the web, checking emails, booking flights online, renewing their car tax or making free Skype calls abroad. “
